Let me walk you through each song on Do Not Disturb and what they mean to me.
Track 1: “Four Walls”
Finding peace in isolation
This song opens the album with exactly what I need most: four walls and a locked door. No expectations, no performances, just me and the quiet. It’s not angry or bitter – just peaceful. Sometimes the best thing you can do for yourself is create a sanctuary where nobody can reach you.
Favorite lyric: “No voices in my head but my own / No performance, no pretending I’m okay”
Track 2: “Rainy Day Inside”
When grey skies feel like permission to rest
You know how sometimes good weather makes you feel guilty for not being productive and happy? This song is about the relief that comes when the weather is sad too. Grey skies give you permission to just be still without justification.
Favorite lyric: “No sun to tell me I should smile / No blue skies making me feel guilty”
Track 3: “Don’t Take It Personal”
Asking for space without guilt
This one came from a real place – those times when people want to help, but talking about it just makes it worse. Sometimes you need to disappear without everyone taking it personally. It’s defensive but calm, which is exactly how I feel when I’m trying to protect my peace.
Favorite lyric: “Please don’t text me if you need an answer, please just call me / I’m not making anyone happy / I’m working hard and working harder every day”
Track 4: “Background Noise”
Feeling invisible in a room full of voices
Have you ever felt like you could leave and nobody would notice? That’s this song. It’s about being the person everyone talks over, the one whose voice doesn’t quite carry. And there’s this weird resignation to it – like maybe it’s easier to fade into the wall than to keep trying to be heard.
Favorite lyric: “Maybe I’m too quiet / Maybe I don’t shine enough / But I’m tired of screaming louder / Just to feel like I’m enough”
Track 5: “Autopilot”
Going through the motions
Wake up. Coffee. Shower. Fake a smile. Check the boxes. Play the part. Repeat. This song is about that emotional numbness where you’re just going through the motions of life without really being present. You’re functioning, but you’re not living.
Favorite lyric: “Somewhere along the way / I stopped feeling anything / Now I’m just coasting through / Waiting for something to change / But nothing ever does”
Track 6: “Numb”
Emotional shutdown
If “Autopilot” is about going through the motions, “Numb” is about complete emotional flatline. Not sad, not happy, just… nothing. And there’s this twisted comfort in it – like maybe numb is safer than feeling too much.
Favorite lyric: “Maybe numb is better / Than feeling too much pain / Maybe numb is safer / Than going insane”
Track 7: “3 AM Thoughts”
The insomnia that comes with overthinking
It’s 3 AM and everyone else is asleep, but your brain won’t shut off. Every mistake you’ve ever made is playing on repeat. Every awkward conversation. Every moment you wish you could take back. This song is that late-night spiral we’ve all been caught in.
Favorite lyric: “Every conversation I should’ve handled better / Every word I wish I could take back / Every moment I made a fool of myself / Playing over and over on a loop I can’t detach”
Track 8: “No Answers”
When your head and heart both hurt
This one came from pure exhaustion – that moment when everyone’s looking at you to fix things and you’ve got nothing left. My head hurts from overthinking. My heart hurts from trying too hard. And I’m just trying not to fall apart.
Favorite lyric: “My head hurts from overthinking / My heart hurts from trying too hard / And somewhere in between the two / I lost who I are”
Track 9: “Stop Putting Words In My Mouth”
Fighting back against being misunderstood
This is the angriest song on the album. It’s about being so tired of people twisting your words, telling you what you meant, calling you out for things you never said. Sometimes people want you to be wrong so badly they’ll rewrite your entire conversation to make it happen.
Favorite lyric: “You heard what you wanted to hear / Filled in the blanks with your own fear / Now you’re mad at me for something I never said / And I’m supposed to apologize instead?”
Track 10: “I’m Not Making Anyone Happy”
Choosing solitude over constant disappointment
The title track closes the album with resignation and acceptance. I’m not making anyone happy no matter how hard I try, so maybe it’s time to just be alone. It’s sad but honest – sometimes you have to choose yourself even when it disappoints everyone else.
Favorite lyric: “Have some generosity for once, please / Now leave me alone / If I’m happy, you’re that mad”
Final Thoughts
This album is my therapy. It’s every frustration, every moment of exhaustion, every time I just wanted to close my door and be left alone. If even one of these songs resonates with you, then we’ve both found what we needed – permission to not be okay, and the space to just exist.
Thank you for listening.

A Note About Mental Health & Getting Help
This album deals with heavy topics: burnout, depression, numbness, exhaustion, and the overwhelming need for space. While writing these songs was therapeutic for me, I want to be very clear: music is not a replacement for professional help.
If you’re struggling with depression, burnout, anxiety, suicidal thoughts, or mental health challenges, please reach out to someone who can actually help:
Crisis Resources:
- 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline: Call or text 988 (available 24/7)
- Crisis Text Line: Text HOME to 741741 (available 24/7)
- SAMHSA National Helpline: 1-800-662-4357 (free, confidential, 24/7 treatment referral service)
Professional Support:
- Talk to your doctor about mental health referrals
- Consider therapy (many therapists offer sliding scale fees)
- Look into employee assistance programs (EAP) if available through your work
- Check out online therapy options like BetterHelp or Talkspace if in-person isn’t accessible
For Friends & Family: If someone you love is struggling, please don’t just tell them to “listen to music” or “stay positive.” Encourage them to seek professional help. Offer to help them find a therapist. Drive them to appointments if needed. Sometimes the kindest thing you can do is help someone access real support.
My Personal Message: I’m okay. I’m working through my exhaustion with support, boundaries, and rest. But if these songs resonate with you on a deep level – especially songs like “Numb,” “3 AM Thoughts,” or “No Answers” – please don’t suffer alone. You deserve real help, not just a sad playlist.
Music can be therapy. But it’s not the therapist.
Please take care of yourself. You’re worth it.
