From Dusty Journals to Finished Songs
For years, I’ve been that person who scribbles song ideas in journals at 2 am, hums melodies in the car, and thinks “someday I’ll finish this.” Well, I had over 10 journals filled with unfinished songs, half-written lyrics, and melodies that existed only in my head. The problem? I didn’t have the technical skills or resources to produce them into actual, listenable songs.
Then I discovered AI music tools, and everything changed.
My Creative Workflow

Step 1: The Journal Dive
I start by going through my old journalsโsome dating back over a decade! I look for lyrics, chord progressions I sketched out, or even just a feeling I was trying to capture. Sometimes it’s a complete verse and chorus. Sometimes it’s just three lines that spoke to me years ago.
I also go through the audio recording app on my phone and listen to the many melodies that popped into my head over the years!
Step 2: Refining with Claude (AI)
This is where the magic begins. I work with Claude AI to help me finish and refine my songs. I’ll share what I’ve writtenโthe fragments, the ideas, the emotion I was trying to conveyโand Claude helps me:
- Complete unfinished verses
- Strengthen my lyrics
- Find better word choices that capture what I’m feeling
- Explore different song structures
- Brainstorm rhyme schemes and melodic ideas
Think of it like having a co-writer who’s available 24/7, never judges my rough drafts, and helps me polish my raw ideas into something I’m proud of. The heart and soul of every song is still mineโmy experiences, my emotions, my stories. Claude just helps me articulate them in the best way possible.
Step 3: Producing with Suno
Once I have lyrics I love, I move to Suno AI to actually produce the music. This is where my songs get their sound! I input my refined lyrics and experiment with:
- Different musical styles and genres
- Various vocal approaches
- Instrumentation choices
- Tempo and mood

Step 4: Iteration, Iteration, Iteration!
Here’s the truth: I rarely get it right on the first try. Or the second. Or even the tenth!
I go through many, many iterations. I’ll generate a version, listen critically, and think “the bridge needs more energy” or “this doesn’t capture the emotion I want” or “the tempo is too slow.” Then I adjust and try again.
Sometimes I go back to Claude to refine lyrics further. Sometimes I tweak the production parameters in Suno. Sometimes I realize I need to rethink the entire approach.
I keep iterating until it feels perfectโuntil the song matches what I heard in my heart when I first scribbled those words in my journal.
What AI Means for My Music
Let me be crystal clear: AI hasn’t replaced my creativity; it’s unlocked it.
I’ve always been a singer and songwriter. I’ve performed in choirs since I was young, led worship for years, played guitar, played piano. But I didn’t have access to a recording studio, professional producers, or thousands of dollars for production costs.
AI has democratized music production for me. It’s given me the tools to:
- Finish songs that would have stayed in journals forever
- Produce professional-quality music from my home
- Experiment with sounds and styles I couldn’t create on my own
- Share my music with the world
Every song still starts with meโmy life, my stories, my emotions, my melodies. AI is simply the tool that helps me bring those ideas to full fruition.
Why I’m Transparent About My Process
I believe in being honest about how I create. Some artists don’t share their process, and that’s fine. But I want you to know exactly how these songs come to life because:
- It might inspire you to finish your own creative projects that have been sitting dormant
- It demystifies AI and shows how it can be a creative partner, not a replacement for human artistry
- It’s authentic to who I amโI’ve always been open about my journey
The Songs Are Still Mine
At the end of the day, these are MY songs:
- My stories
- My experiences
- My emotions
- My voice
- My choices
- My vision
AI is the instrument I’m using to play them. Just like a piano doesn’t write the songโthe pianist does. It’s my modern toolkit.
What’s Next
I release my first ai album, “My Thanksgiving” on November 21 2025 and “My Kind of Christmas” on November, 24th, and I couldn’t be more excited! My single, “5am Crew” will be released on January 1, 2026!
I’m also working on something specialโsongs written specifically for quilters. Because why should my two creative passions stay separate?
Thank you for being part of this journey with me. If you have questions about my process, want to know more about the tools I use, or just want to chat about creativity, feel free to reach out at TheMelanieGrace@gmail.com.
Let’s create something beautiful together!
