When Your Partner Doesn’t Get Your Holiday Film Obsession

Thereโ€™s something magical about curling up with a classic Christmas movie โ€” the kind that makes you quote every line and tear up at the same scenes every year. โ€œNostalgia Christmas Moviesโ€ celebrates those familiar stories that bring families together, remind us of loveโ€™s triumphs, and fill the room with laughter. Itโ€™s a cinematic snow globe of comfort and joy.

This one is personal and playfulโ€”a song about the age-old relationship dynamic of the Christmas movie lover and their reluctant partner. And you know what? There’s no Christmas song about this. None. Despite the fact that Christmas movie marathons are a HUGE part of modern Christmas culture. “Nostalgia Christmas Movies” is for everyone who’s ever tried to share their beloved holiday films with someone who just doesn’t get it.

The song runs through all the classicsโ€”George Bailey and his wonderful life, the Grinch’s growing heart, Buddy the Elf spreading cheer, the Griswolds with their chaotic Christmas, Kevin’s booby traps (seriously, those criminals should be dead), and yes, the eternal debate: is Die Hard a Christmas movie?

I love the honesty in this song: “My baby says ‘Not this one again,’ he’s shaking his head, Lord, where do I begin?” His nostalgia button is broken, tradition won’t take hold, but there’s love in letting him have his action movies while I have my Hallmark marathons. The compromise is real: “You there with your patience and me with my routine.”

The bridge is the heart of it: “Maybe next year you’ll remember how the light looked on the tree, while Bing was crooning somewhere and you were stuck here next to me… You might not need the nostalgia, but I need you here, you know.” It’s not really about the movies. It’s about being together, even when you don’t share the same traditions.

The final message is beautiful: “We don’t need matching buttons to make this season bright.” Love makes room for differences. That’s the real Christmas magic. And that’s a story worth telling in a new Christmas song, because it’s happening in living rooms all across the world every December.

This is exactly why I’m so passionate about creating fresh Christmas musicโ€”because our experiences deserve soundtracks too, not just the experiences of people from 50+ years ago.

๐ŸŽ Tomorrow: as we wrap up our journey, weโ€™ll look ahead with fresh hope in โ€œNew Year New Me.โ€
