We can disagree and still pray for each other.
“I Still Pray For You” might be the most important song on this album. It’s my confession that even when I’m frustrated, even when I’m angry, even when I completely disagree – I still pray.
The Political Divide
“We don’t see eye to eye, that much is clear, your signs on your lawn, mine over here.”
We all know this tension. Family dinners that avoid politics. Friendships strained by elections. Neighbors who stop waving.
But here’s the truth: politics isn’t eternal. People are.
The Late-Night Moment
“We argue online, can’t find common ground, but late at night when the world quiets down…”
That’s when my faith kicks in. That’s when I remember that beyond the arguments, there’s a person. A soul. Someone God loves as much as He loves me.
The Chorus Confession
“I still pray for you, even when we disagree. I still pray for peace, for you, for me, for this country.”
This isn’t weakness. This is what my faith demands. Love your neighbor. Pray for those who persecute you. Bless and do not curse.
The Humanizing Verse
“You think I’m wrong, I think the same of you, we’ve both dug trenches we can’t see through. But you’re still my neighbor, still flesh and bone, and nobody should fight these battles alone.”
Politics can make us forget: we’re all human. We all hurt. We all hope. We all want a better future for our kids.
Something Higher
The bridge gets to the heart: “Maybe we’ll never see the same, maybe we’ll always place the blame. But I believe there’s something higher, than this political fire.”
There is. God’s perspective is bigger than our political positions.
The Final Prayer
“So I still pray for you, when the anger fades to grace. I still pray for peace, to heal this broken place.”
Grace doesn’t mean agreement. Grace means choosing love anyway.
Why Gospel Influences?
This needed the warmth of gospel music – piano, organ touches, light choir humming. Gospel music knows how to hold pain and hope at the same time.
A Personal Challenge
I wrote this song to challenge myself as much as anyone else. When I’m fired up about politics, when I’m frustrated with the other side – can I still pray? Can I still choose love?
The answer has to be yes.
Not Naรฏve
This isn’t asking anyone to be silent about their convictions. I’m not. But it’s saying we can fight for what we believe while still seeing the humanity in those who disagree.
