And here we GO! This is where the album shifts into Irish territory, and we’re starting with pure, unapologetic JOY.
The Story Behind “Wearing Green”
Every March 17th, I’m up before the sun. I’m digging through my closet like I’m on a mission – because I AM. I’m finding that perfect shade of green. Emerald. Clover. Jade. Forest. Neon. I don’t care what shade it is as long as it’s GREEN.
And then I wear it ALL. Green from head to toe. Green shoes. Green earrings. Green everything. I’m a walking St. Patrick’s Day parade, and I’m not apologizing for it.
This song is about that feeling – that pure, childlike excitement of wearing a color that makes you FEEL something. It’s celebration. It’s pride. It’s joy wrapped up in a brilliant dream.
The Lyrics
VERSE 1
March seventeenth, I’m up before the sun
Digging through my closet ’til I find the one
That perfect shade of emerald, clover, jade
Every year it’s like my own St. Patrick’s parade
Don’t need a reason, don’t need Irish blood
Just give me green and lift me like a flood
CHORUS
I’m wearing green, wearing green
The brightest color you’ve ever seen
From my shoes up to my earrings’ gleam
I’m wearing green, wearing green
It’s more than just a holiday theme
It’s joy wrapped up in a brilliant dream
I’m wearing green!
VERSE 2
Some say it’s luck, some say it’s pride
I say it’s magic I don’t have to hide
Thirty-three percent Irish in my veins
But one hundred percent loving these refrains
The world looks different through this colored lens
Everything’s brighter when the green begins
BRIDGE
Let them call me shameless, let them call me bold
This color tells a story that never gets old
Spring is coming, hope is rising high
And I’m a walking celebration across the sky
Every shade from forest deep to neon bright
I’m painting March in green light
Why Green Matters
This isn’t just about a color. It’s about connection. It’s about heritage. It’s about giving yourself permission to CELEBRATE something that matters to you.
I’m 33% Irish. Not a huge percentage. But that 33% runs deep. It’s in my bones, in my stories, in the way I see the world. And every March, wearing green is my way of saying “I see you, ancestors. I honor you. I carry you forward.”
But also? It’s FUN. It’s joyful. It’s bright. And sometimes that’s enough reason to do something – because it brings you joy.
The Musical Celebration
This song needed Celtic pop energy – fiddle accents, bodhrรกn (that Irish drum), bright acoustic guitar, hand claps, stomping rhythms. I wanted it to feel like you can’t help but smile when you hear it. Like you want to MOVE.
The chorus is short and punchy and anthemic. Easy to remember. Easy to sing along with. “I’m wearing green, wearing green!” – I want people shouting that at the top of their lungs.
And that bridge? That’s where I get to be bold. “Let them call me shameless, let them call me bold” – because I AM bold about this. I’m not embarrassed. I’m not toning it down. I’m painting March in green light, and I’m proud of it.
What This Song Does for the Album
“Wearing Green” is the transition point. We’ve had our playful questions about leap day and February’s length. Now we’re diving into Irish heritage, and we’re starting with JOY. With celebration. With pride.
This sets the tone for tracks 4-7, where we get personal about Irish identity, family, food, and yes, comedy. But before we go deep, before we laugh at ourselves, before we get heavy – we CELEBRATE.
Because that’s what this heritage is to me: something worth celebrating.
To My Fellow Green-Wearers
This song is for everyone who gets irrationally excited about St. Patrick’s Day. For everyone who owns seventeen different shades of green. For everyone who feels that spark of connection when they wear a color that means something.
You’re not alone. I see you. I’m right there with you, up before the sun, digging through my closet, finding that perfect green.
Let’s paint March in green light together.
