Track 15: “Renewal” – This Is Me

We’ve come so far. From the playful wonder of “Leap Day” to the darkness of “It Runs on Both Sides” to the power of “Bloom Where You’re Planted.” And now? Now we come home.

“Renewal” is the closing statement. The soft anthem. The moment where I look back at everything we’ve walked through together and say: This is me. Transformed. Renewed. FREE.

    The Story Behind “Renewal”

This is the song that brings the entire journey full circle. We’ve been through comedy, darkness, healing, and power. We’ve faced family dysfunction, embraced chaos, planted seeds, and claimed our strength.

And now? Now we acknowledge the transformation. Now we say “I’m not who I was before. And that’s a GOOD thing.”

Renewal isn’t about becoming someone new. It’s about becoming who you were always meant to be.

    The Lyrics

    VERSE 1
I thought I knew who I was supposed to be
Had it all mapped out so carefully
But life had different plans for me
And broke me down so I could see
That sometimes you have to fall apart
To find out who you really are
And I’m not who I was before
    I’m something more

    CHORUS
This is my renewal, my rebirth
I’m not the same, I’ve been remade
This is my renewal, can’t you see?
I’m finally becoming who I’m meant to be

    VERSE 2
The caterpillar doesn’t mourn the wings
It breaks apart to fly to bigger things
And I’ve been breaking, I’ve been torn
But now I’m ready to transform
Every scar has taught me how to heal
Every loss has taught me what is real
And I’m emerging from the dark
    With fire in my heart

    BRIDGE
    Let the old me go
    Let the new me grow
I don’t need to be who I was yesterday
    I’m allowed to change
    I’m allowed to rearrange
Everything I thought I’d always stay
    This is my renewal
    This is my way

    CHORUS (FINAL)
This is my renewal, my rebirth
I’m not the same, I’ve been remade
This is my renewal, can’t you see?
I’m finally becoming who I’m meant to be
This is my renewal, I am free
    This is me

    The Soft Power

“Renewal” is a SOFT anthem. It’s powerful without being bombastic. It’s triumphant without being aggressive. The power comes from TRUTH, not volume.

Think “This Is Me” from The Greatest Showman – that emotional, authentic power that comes from finally accepting yourself. From finally saying “this is who I am, and I’m not apologizing.”

Start the verses quiet and intimate, almost vulnerable. Build gradually. The chorus is powerful but controlled. The bridge strips back before the final chorus explosion.

And that last line – “This is me” – should fade out like an exhale. Like peace. Like coming home to yourself.

    The Caterpillar Metaphor

“The caterpillar doesn’t mourn the wings / It breaks apart to fly to bigger things”

This is one of my favorite lyrics I’ve ever written. Because it’s TRUE. The caterpillar doesn’t sit in the cocoon thinking “oh no, I’m losing my caterpillar body!” It SURRENDERS to the transformation. It trusts the process.

And that’s what this whole album has been about. Surrendering to transformation. Trusting that breaking down isn’t the end – it’s the beginning of something bigger.

    The Permission to Change

That bridge gives us something SO important: PERMISSION.

“I’m allowed to change / I’m allowed to rearrange / Everything I thought I’d always stay”

We spend so much time thinking we have to be consistent. That changing means we were “wrong” before. That transformation means admitting failure.

But what if transformation is actually about becoming MORE yourself? What if changing isn’t betrayal – it’s growth?

You’re allowed to change. You’re allowed to rearrange. You’re allowed to become.

What This Song Does for the Album

“Renewal” brings the journey home. We’ve been through EVERYTHING – joy, pain, laughter, darkness, hope, power. And now we land here: transformed. Renewed. At peace with who we’re becoming.

This isn’t a loud ending. It’s not a celebration. It’s a quiet, powerful acknowledgment: I’ve been through the fire. I’ve been remade. And I’m okay with who I’m becoming.

Actually, I’m more than okay. I’m FREE.

    The Final Message

This album has been a March journey – from playful beginnings through dark valleys and up to powerful peaks. And “Renewal” is me saying to you:

You can go through all of this and come out BETTER. Not broken. Not damaged. But renewed.

Transformation isn’t easy. It’s messy. It’s painful. It requires you to face darkness (track 9), to plant hope even when you can’t see results (track 12), to dance in chaos (track 13), and to claim your power (track 14).

But on the other side? You get to say “This is me.” And mean it.

    What I Hope You Feel

I want you to feel PEACE. I want you to feel ACCEPTANCE of who you’re becoming. I want you to give yourself permission to be transformed.

And I want you to know: if you’ve been through hard things, if you’ve faced darkness, if you’ve had to break down to break through – you’re not alone. And you’re not broken.

    You’re being RENEWED.

Welcome to the other side, friend. You made it.

    ❤️ Melanie

P.S. – This is the last song of the album, but it’s not the end of the journey. This is just the beginning of who you’re becoming. Keep blooming. Keep growing. Keep renewing.

  • Track 14: “Bloom Where You’re Planted” – The Moment Everything Changes

Track 14: “Bloom Where You’re Planted” – The Moment Everything Changes

This is it. This is THE song. The big vocal showcase. The power anthem. The “Defying Gravity” moment of the album.

This is where I tell you to bloom where you’re planted – and I mean it with everything I have.

The Story Behind “Bloom Where You’re Planted”

I prayed for change. I prayed for something new, something big to happen in my life. I was waiting. I was ready. I had my bags packed, metaphorically speaking.

    And… nothing happened.

Days passed. Weeks passed. The big change I was praying for? It didn’t come.

And then I felt it – not an audible voice, but a clear, undeniable sense from God: “Grow where you are. Bloom where you’re planted.”

I wasn’t supposed to wait for perfect conditions. I wasn’t supposed to wait for the big opportunity or the perfect moment or the ideal circumstances.

I was supposed to bloom RIGHT HERE. RIGHT NOW. In the imperfect soil. In the rocky ground. In the place I thought I was just passing through.

    The Lyrics

    VERSE 1
I wasn’t supposed to end up here
This wasn’t in my five-year plan
But life has a way of rearranging things
And I’m learning how to understand
That roots can grow in rocky soil
And flowers push through concrete cracks
    You don’t need perfect conditions
    To find your way back

    CHORUS
    Bloom where you’re planted
    Rise up through the shadows
Reach for every ray of light
    Bloom where you’re planted tonight

    VERSE 2
I used to think I needed more
    Perfect timing, perfect place
But roses grow in gardens that nobody maintains
And wildflowers have their own kind of grace
So I’m putting down my roots right here
Right now, right where I stand
    No more waiting for ideal
    I’m blooming where I land

    BRIDGE
They say the lotus rises from the mud
They say diamonds form under pressure
So why am I waiting for perfect conditions
When I could be blooming under measure?
This is my moment, this is my ground
This is where I’m meant to be found
I’m done with excuses, done with delay
I’m blooming right here, I’m blooming today!

    CHORUS (FINAL)
    Bloom where you’re planted
    Rise up through the shadows
Reach for every ray of light
    Bloom where you’re planted
    With everything you are inside
    Bloom where you’re planted tonight!

    The Power in the Message

This isn’t just a “make the best of it” song. This is a “you are POWERFUL exactly where you are” song.

“Roots can grow in rocky soil / And flowers push through concrete cracks” – you don’t need perfect conditions. You just need to be WILLING to grow anyway.

And that bridge? “This is my moment, this is my ground / This is where I’m meant to be found / I’m done with excuses, done with delay / I’m blooming right here, I’m blooming today!”

That’s AGENCY. That’s CHOICE. That’s saying “I’m not waiting anymore. I’m not making excuses. This is MY moment and I’m taking it.”

    The Vocal Showcase

This is THE moment on the album where I get to show what these Alto-Mezzo Soprano pipes can do. This is my “Defying Gravity.” This is my “And I Am Telling You.”

Start verse 1 with RESTRAINT. Build through verse 2 with growing confidence. And then the bridge? The bridge is where you GO FOR IT. That “I’m blooming today!” line should be a MOMENT. A belt. A declaration.

Final chorus adds those extra lines and should be FULL OUT. Everything I’ve got. Every ounce of power and conviction.

Because if I’m going to tell YOU to bloom where you’re planted, I better mean it with my whole chest.

What This Song Does for the Album

We’ve been building to this. Track 9 took us to the depths. Tracks 10-12 slowly brought us back to hope. Track 13 gave us wild energy. And NOW? Now we claim our POWER.

This is the climax. This is the peak. This is the moment where transformation becomes CHOICE, not just something that happens TO you.

After this, track 15 (“Renewal”) brings us home with quiet power. But first, we need THIS. We need to ROAR.

    The Lesson I Learned

I was waiting for God to change my circumstances. But God was saying “I’m going to change YOU right where you are.”

And that was the more powerful transformation anyway.

Because blooming where you’re planted isn’t about settling. It’s not about giving up on dreams. It’s about recognizing that you have power RIGHT NOW, right where you are, even if it’s not where you thought you’d be.

It’s about stop waiting for permission. Stop waiting for perfect conditions. Stop waiting for the five-year plan to line up.

Bloom NOW. Bloom HERE. Bloom with what you have, where you are, as you are.

    What I Hope You Feel

I want you to feel POWERFUL. I want you to feel like you can take on the world. I want you to stop making excuses about why you can’t start until conditions are perfect.

I want you to look at your rocky soil and say “okay, this is what I’ve got – let’s see what I can grow here.”

I want you to bloom. Today. Right where you are.

Because you don’t need perfect conditions. You just need to be willing.

    ❤️ Melanie

P.S. – Sing this one at the top of your lungs. Belt it in your car. Declare it in your kitchen. Make it YOUR anthem too.

  • Track 13: “March Winds” – Dancing in the Chaos

Track 13: “March Winds” – Dancing in the Chaos

Hold onto your hats, friends. Literally. Because the ENERGY is BACK and we’re about to get WILD.

After three songs of gentle recovery and hope-building, “March Winds” explodes with that chaotic, beautiful, can’t-be-controlled energy of spring storms. This is the title track. This is where everything breaks loose.

    The Story Behind “March Winds”

If you’ve ever experienced March in California (or anywhere, really), you know: the wind is UNPREDICTABLE. One minute it’s calm, the next minute your trash cans are rolling down the street, your hair is a disaster, and your umbrella is inside-out.

March winds are chaos. They’re wild. They’re uncontrollable. And honestly? They’re FUN.

This song came from one of those days when I stepped outside and immediately lost my hat. And then my jacket was flapping like a sail. And then I just started LAUGHING because what else can you do? You can’t control the wind. You can only dance with it.

    The Lyrics

    VERSE 1
Stepped outside and lost my hat
    Hair’s a mess, can’t deal with that
    Jacket’s flapping like a sail
March winds blowing in like gale
Tried to look put-together, tried to keep it neat
But Mother Nature’s got me stumbling down the street

    CHORUS
    March winds, March winds
    Blowing everything around
    March winds, March winds
Knock you off your solid ground
Can’t hold still, can’t stay the same
March winds playing their wild game
    March winds, March winds tonight

    VERSE 2
Trash cans rolling down the road
Tree branches putting on a show
    My umbrella’s inside-out again
    Gave up trying to pretend
That I’m in control of anything at all
March winds remind me that I’m bound to fall

    BRIDGE
Maybe I should stop fighting it
Let the chaos have its way
Maybe wildness is the point of it
    Not everything needs to stay
Some things need to be blown away
Some things need to be set free
    March winds are teaching me
How to bend, how to sway
How to dance when things won’t stay

    The Shift in the Bridge

That bridge is EVERYTHING. It’s the moment where I stop fighting the chaos and start EMBRACING it.

“Maybe wildness is the point of it / Not everything needs to stay / Some things need to be blown away”

That’s the lesson. The wind isn’t your enemy. It’s doing what wind does – clearing out what doesn’t need to be there anymore. Making space. Shaking things up.

And that last line of the bridge – “How to dance when things won’t stay” – that’s it. That’s the whole point. Things WON’T stay. Life is change. Life is chaos. And you can either fight it and get exhausted, or you can learn to dance.

    The Energy EXPLODES

After three gentle, building songs (tracks 10-12), “March Winds” is where the album says “OKAY, WE’RE DONE BEING GENTLE. TIME TO MOVE.”

This needs KINETIC energy. Driving drums, electric guitar riffs, dynamic intensity. You should feel like you’re being blown around while listening to this. Like you can’t sit still.

That 140 BPM should make you want to MOVE. To dance. To let go of control and just… go with it.

    The Controlled Chaos

Here’s the trick with this song: it needs to sound chaotic but still be CONTROLLED. Like a well-choreographed storm. The music should feel wild and unpredictable, but underneath it all, there’s structure holding it together.

Kind of like life, right? It feels chaotic, but there’s always something holding it together if you look close enough.

What This Song Does for the Album

“March Winds” is the ENERGY RETURN. We’ve been building slowly since track 10. We’ve been healing, hoping, planting seeds. And NOW? Now we’re ALIVE again. Now we’re dancing in the storm.

This sets us up perfectly for track 14 (“Bloom Where You’re Planted”), which is the BIG VOCAL SHOWCASE. You need this wild, energetic moment to lead into that power anthem.

    What I Hope You Feel

I want you to feel ENERGIZED. I want you to feel ALIVE. I want you to remember what it feels like to let go of control and just… be in the moment.

I want you to dance in your kitchen. I want you to laugh when your plans get blown apart. I want you to embrace the chaos instead of fighting it.

Because March winds are coming whether you’re ready or not. You can either brace against them and get exhausted, or you can spread your arms and see where they take you.

    I’m choosing to dance.

    ❤️ Melanie

  • Track 12: “Seeds of Tomorrow” – Planting Hope in 3/4 Time

Track 12: “Seeds of Tomorrow” – Planting Hope in 3/4 Time

After the peaceful observation of “Robin’s Return,” we’re ready to start BUILDING. Not with force, but with faith. With small actions. With seeds planted in hope.

And we’re doing it as a WALTZ – because some things are meant to sway gently.

The Story Behind “Seeds of Tomorrow”

I wrote this song thinking about gardening – literally planting seeds in March rain, not knowing exactly what will grow. But it’s really about so much more than gardening.

It’s about making choices today that won’t pay off for months. Or years. Or maybe not in your lifetime.

It’s about faith. About hope. About doing the work even when you can’t see the results yet.

    It’s about legacy.

    The Lyrics

    VERSE 1
I’m planting seeds in March’s rain
    Not knowing what will grow
But something tells me all this faith
Will lead to something I don’t know
My hands are dirty, knees are bent
    I’m hoping for the best
    These tiny seeds hold promises
That time will do the rest

    CHORUS
Seeds of tomorrow in the ground today
Small beginnings that will find their way
I may not see the flowers bloom right now
    But I believe, somehow, somehow
Seeds of tomorrow, seeds of hope
Growing slowly as I learn to cope
With not knowing, with the wait
Seeds of tomorrow, I have faith

    VERSE 2
The garden doesn’t rush or race
It knows its own sweet time
And I’m learning patience has a grace
That’s gentler than this climbing climb
What I plant today might feed
    Someone I’ll never meet
But legacy is built on seeds
    We scatter at our feet

    BRIDGE
    Every ending holds a beginning
    Every loss plants something new
I’m not just surviving, I’m building
    Something beautiful and true
So I’ll keep planting, keep believing
In the harvest I can’t see
    Seeds of tomorrow I’m leaving
For the version I’ll become of me

    The Waltz

This song is written in 3/4 time – a WALTZ. Feel that gentle sway? 1-2-3, 1-2-3. Like rocking a baby. Like swaying in a garden. Like the rhythm of planting: bend, drop seed, cover.

The waltz gives this song a dreamy, peaceful quality. It’s not rushing. It’s not forcing. It’s just… moving at its own gentle pace, trusting the process.

    What This Song Really Means

“I may not see the flowers bloom right now / But I believe, somehow, somehow” – that’s the heart of it. Faith without immediate gratification. Trust without proof.

And that second verse – “What I plant today might feed / Someone I’ll never meet / But legacy is built on seeds / We scatter at our feet” – that’s about understanding that your actions have ripples beyond your life. That the work you do today matters even if YOU don’t see all the results.

The bridge is where it gets personal: “Seeds of tomorrow I’m leaving / For the version I’ll become of me.” This isn’t just about leaving something for others. It’s about investing in your OWN future self. The person you’re becoming. The growth that’s happening slowly, underground, out of sight.

    The Patience of Gardens

“The garden doesn’t rush or race / It knows its own sweet time” – this line is me learning to trust the process. To stop forcing things. To remember that growth happens whether or not I’m anxiously watching for it.

Patience has a grace “that’s gentler than this climbing climb.” The climb is exhausting. But patience? Patience is gentle. It’s trusting that things will unfold as they’re meant to.

What This Song Does for the Album

We’re building toward the powerful finish (tracks 13-15), but we’re not there yet. “Seeds of Tomorrow” is about HOPE, yes, but it’s about patient hope. Gentle hope. Hope that understands transformation takes time.

After the darkness of track 9, after the first glimmers of hope in track 10, after the peaceful breathing room of track 11 – NOW we’re actively planting. We’re doing the work. We’re building the future, one small seed at a time.

    The Lullaby Quality

This song should feel almost like a lullaby. Like you could sway to it. Like you could fall asleep to it and dream about gardens and growth and becoming.

Gentle piano waltz, soft strings, acoustic guitar – all supporting that 3/4 rhythm that rocks you gently forward.

    What I Hope You Feel

I want you to feel HOPE, but patient hope. Not the desperate “please let this work out NOW” hope, but the trusting “I’m doing the work and I believe it will matter” hope.

I want you to think about what seeds YOU’RE planting. What small actions you’re taking today that might bloom months or years from now. What legacy you’re building, one careful choice at a time.

And I want you to give yourself permission to not see the results yet. To trust that growth is happening even when it’s invisible. To believe in the harvest you can’t see.

Because spring doesn’t happen overnight. Flowers don’t bloom the day after you plant them. But they’re working underground. They’re getting ready.

    And so are you.

    ❤️ Melanie

  • Track 11: “Robin’s Return” – The Promise That Comes Back

Track 11: “Robin’s Return” – The Promise That Comes Back

After the hopeful awakening of “First Thaw,” we need a moment to just… breathe. To observe. To notice the small, beautiful things that remind us life continues.

    Enter the robin.

    The Story Behind “Robin’s Return”

Every spring, I watch for the robins. That first morning when I see one in the garden, hopping around with that bright red breast against the green lawn – that’s when I know spring is OFFICIAL.

This song came from one of those mornings. I was sitting by the window with my coffee, and there it was: a robin, back again, building a nest in the eaves like it does every year.

And I thought: “You know something I’m trying to learn. You know how to leave and still know when to return.”

    The Lyrics

    VERSE 1
I saw you in the garden just after dawn
Red breast bright against the lawn
You’re early this year, or maybe right on time
Either way, you’re here, and that suits me fine
Been waiting for your song to fill the air
Spring’s not official till I see you there

    CHORUS
    Welcome back, little robin
You’re the promise I’ve been holding
Every year you find your way
Welcome back, it’s a brand new day
    Robin’s return, robin’s return

    VERSE 2
You’re building something in the eaves again
Twigs and grass and hope within
I won’t disturb you, I’ll just watch you work
Every careful movement, every little quirk
You know something that I’m trying to learn
How to leave and still know when to return

    BRIDGE
Some things come back when they’re ready
Some things leave and don’t return
    But you, you’re steady
Teaching me what I need to learn
That coming home is built into your bones
And I don’t have to do this life alone

    What The Robin Represents

This song isn’t really about a bird. (Well, it is. But it’s also not.)

It’s about CYCLES. It’s about things that leave and come back. It’s about trust that even when something disappears, it might return when the time is right.

“You know something that I’m trying to learn / How to leave and still know when to return” – that’s about so much more than migration patterns. That’s about knowing when to step away from situations, relationships, versions of yourself… and trusting that you’ll know when (and if) to come back.

    The Comfort of Steady Things

In a world that feels chaotic, in an album that’s taken us through darkness and is slowly climbing toward light – this song is about finding comfort in the things that are STEADY.

The robin comes back. Every year. You can count on it.

And that bridge – “Some things come back when they’re ready / Some things leave and don’t return / But you, you’re steady” – that’s acknowledging both realities. Not everything comes back. But some things do. And the steady things? They’re worth noticing. Worth celebrating.

    The Quiet Heart

This is the quiet, contemplative moment on the album. After the energy and hope of “First Thaw,” we needed to slow down. To sit. To just… observe.

Think of this song like sitting by a window on a spring morning, watching a robin work. No rushing. No forcing. Just peaceful observation.

The production is simple – gentle fingerpicked guitar, soft strings, maybe some actual bird sounds woven in. It’s intimate. It’s tender. It’s meant to feel like a conversation between you and nature.

What This Song Does for the Album

“Robin’s Return” gives us breathing room. We’re recovering from track 9’s darkness. We’re building hope through track 10. And now? Now we pause. We notice. We appreciate.

This is the inhale before tracks 12-15 build toward the album’s powerful conclusion. This is the calm moment that makes the storm (track 13) and the power (track 14) even more impactful.

    What I Hope You Feel

I want you to feel PEACEFUL. I want you to notice the steady things in your life – the people who keep showing up, the rituals that ground you, the small signs that everything is going to be okay.

And I want you to trust that you, too, know how to come home. Even if you need to leave for a while. Even if you need to fly away and figure things out. You’ll know when it’s time to return.

Like the robin, you’ll find your way.

    ❤️ Melanie
