Every summer I love to watch movies in the cool airconditioning with a bowl of popcorn and an iced cold iced tea in my hands! Some of the movies I watch EVERY year are staples in the entertainment industry. My alltime favorite is Captain Ron! never hear of it? Well, here’s the synopsis:

A Chicagoan inherits an old yacht from a dead uncle. He, his wife, daughter and son fly to a Caribbean island and hire the dubious Captain Ron to sail them on an adventure to Miami. Hilarity ensues!

This movie is full of hilarious quotes that my family and I often reference at just about any moment in time! “Been to Disneyworld one too many times, have we Captain Ron?” and, “I’m not whining, I’m complaing!” If you have seen it, go and watch it! it’s streaming on GooglePlay and Amazon, or you can buy the DVD.

Next up on my list is, Dirty Dancing. Yes, I know, cliche, but I love watching it and remember what it felt like to be a teenage in love, so foolish, so fun and so many things to learn.

Spending the summer at a Catskills resort with her family, Frances “Baby” Houseman falls in love with the camp’s dance instructor, Johnny Castle.

Most people quote Johnny Castle from the end of the movie when he says, “Nobody puts Baby in a corner” – to her FATHER! omg, rude. 🙂 My FAVORITE quote is from Baby when the two are having their first fight.

And then there’s my favorite book, favorite story and a pretty enjoyable movie. I never quite understood why this was a reading list for kids – it has mature content that I didn’t understand until much later in my life, after I had loved and lost, wanted more, wanted out, needed more. I love the passion and love displayed by Jay Gatsby.

A writer and wall street trader, Nick, finds himself drawn to the past and lifestyle of his millionaire neighbor, Jay Gatsby.

My favorite (of the MANY MANY) quotes from the book by F. Scott Fitzgerald is from Jordan Baker, the golf pro:

The newest summer movie that will be joining my lineup is a musical, In The Heights. This is a great musical and made even more fantastic by the writing of Lin Manual Miranda! I love the quoteable phrases and music and oh the DANCING! It’s streaming on Disney+!

A film version of the Broadway musical in which Usnavi, a sympathetic New York bodega owner, saves every penny every day as he imagines and sings about a better life.

This line of the movie made me a bit teary eyed!
