    What Easter Really Means When You’ve Felt Unchosen

    Easter Is a Declaration, Not Just a Date

    Every year, Easter comes around and we pull out the lilies and the special music and the good clothes. We say “He is risen” and we mean it. But somewhere between the sunrise service and the Easter lunch, something quietly slips past us.

    Easter is not just a moment in history. It is a declaration about you.

    Before the stone was rolled away, before the empty tomb, before the first light of that resurrection morning, God had already made a choice. And that choice was you.

    What Does It Mean to Be Chosen by Grace?

    The word “chosen” shows up all through Scripture. In Ephesians 1:4, Paul writes that God chose us in Christ “before the foundation of the world.” Not because of anything we had done. Not because we had it together. Not because we earned it.

    He chose us by grace.

    Grace is not a reward. It is not something you qualify for by being good enough or faithful enough or consistent enough in your quiet time. Grace is what God extends when He looks at the full picture of who you are, including the parts you hide, and chooses you anyway.

    Easter is the moment that grace became flesh and blood and sacrifice. The cross is not proof that you are worthless. It is proof that God considered you worth everything.

    When You’ve Felt Unchosen

    If you have ever felt left out, overlooked, passed over, or like everyone else received something you were somehow disqualified from, you are not alone.

    Many of us carry a quiet belief that we are on the outside of something. That grace is for other people. That the kind of love Easter represents is real, but maybe not quite for us.

    That is the lie Easter was designed to undo.

    The resurrection is the Father’s answer to every voice that ever told you that you do not belong. The empty tomb says: I went all the way to death and back for you. That is how chosen you are.

    A New Album Born From This Truth

    This Easter season gave birth to something deeply personal for me. “Chosen by Grace” is my new album, releasing April 6, 2026, and every single song on it was written from inside this truth.

    These are not polished religious sentiments. These are songs I wrote in the real moments of my life, when I needed to be reminded that God meets us where we are, that He finds the lost, that He lifts the hands that have fallen to our sides, that His nature does not change no matter what season we are walking through.

    From the opening title track to the closing song “yesterday, today, forever,” this album is an invitation to let Easter land somewhere deeper than the calendar.

    Bible Verses to Anchor You This Easter

    Ephesians 1:4-5 “For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us for adoption to sonship through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will.”

    1 Peter 2:9 “But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.”

    Romans 5:8 “But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”

    Let Easter Be Personal This Year

    This year, I want to invite you to let Easter be more than a church service. Let it be a moment where you receive, personally and specifically, the truth that you are not an afterthought. You are not the one who barely made the cut.

    You are chosen. By name. By grace. On purpose.

    Not Every Day Starts With a Quiet Time and a Clear Head

    Some mornings you wake up exhausted before the day even begins. Some seasons the prayers feel hollow. Some weeks you are just surviving, and the version of yourself that shows up to God is tired and messy and not at all the version you wish you were bringing.

    “Meeting Me Where I Am” was written for those days.

    The Feeling This Song Holds

    This song does not pretend. It does not start from a place of victory and work backward to honesty. It starts exactly where so many of us actually live: somewhere between trying and not having the energy to try anymore.

    The feeling at the center of this song is need. Pure, unmasked need.

    There is something both humbling and freeing about letting yourself be needy before God. We spend so much energy presenting our best self to the world, and sometimes that habit follows us right into our prayer lives. We feel like we have to be in a certain emotional or spiritual condition before we approach Him.

    This song says: no. You can come as you are. In fact, that is the only way any of us ever come.

    The Comfort of a God Who Comes Down

    What makes this song feel like exhaling is the response embedded in it. The song is not just a cry. It is a cry that gets answered.

    God does not stand at a distance and call us upward to where He is. He comes down. That is the whole story of the incarnation. That is Christmas and Easter compressed into one theological truth: our God descends.

    He met Abraham in a tent. He met Elijah under a broom tree when Elijah was done trying. He met the disciples in a locked room after they had already failed Him. He meets us in the kitchen, in the car, in the 3 AM moments when we are not our best and we know it.

    The title says it all. Not “Meeting Me Where I Should Be.” Not “Meeting Me When I’m Ready.” Meeting me where I am.

    What Scripture Speaks to This Song

    Psalm 34:18 “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.”

    He is not far from your hard moments. He is specifically close to them.

    Matthew 11:28-30 “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.”

    Jesus does not say “come to me when you have rested up.” He says come weary. Come burdened. That is the invitation.

    Romans 8:26 “In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans.”

    Even when you do not have the words, the Spirit does. You are never left without intercession, even on the days you cannot form a sentence.

    Lamentations 3:22-23 “Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.”

    New every morning. Not new once you earn it back. New. Every morning. Regardless.

    Who This Song Is For

    This song is for anyone in a hard season who has been wondering if they need to clean themselves up before they come to God. It is for the person who has been keeping their distance because they feel like they have nothing good to bring.

    You do not need to bring anything good. You just need to come.

    That is what this song is about. And that is what the God who inspired it has always been about.

    The Song That Started Everything

    The Song That Gave the Album Its Name

    When you title a song and then name your entire album after it, you know that song means something.

    “Chosen by Grace” was not the first song I wrote for this project. But it became the one that said what all the others were trying to say. It is the heartbeat. The declaration at the center of everything.

    What Does “Chosen by Grace” Feel Like?

    This song lives in a particular emotional space. It is not triumphant in a loud way. It is more like the feeling you get when something you have hoped was true is finally confirmed.

    Have you ever carried a quiet fear that you might be the exception? That everyone else is loved and chosen, but there is something about you that puts you just outside the circle?

    This song was written for that feeling. And it was written to end it.

    There is something almost disorienting about receiving unearned love. Grace does not make logical sense to us because we are wired to earn things. We are taught from childhood that love is conditional, that belonging is something you qualify for. So when God says “I chose you, not because of anything you did, but because of who I am,” the first response is often disbelief.

    This song sits inside that moment of disbelief and gently, firmly says: it is true. You are chosen. Not by your merit. By His grace.

    The Feeling Behind the Melody

    The emotional core of this song is relief. The kind that makes you cry even when things are fine, because you realize you have been holding your breath for a long time.

    It is the exhale.

    When I wrote this song, I was thinking about every version of myself that had tried to earn a place at the table. The one who performed and achieved and hoped it would be enough. And the moment I understood, really understood, that none of that was the price of admission. That grace was the door, and it was already open.

    What Scripture Speaks to This Song

    Ephesians 2:8-9 “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God, not by works, so that no one can boast.”

    This is the theological bedrock under the whole song. Salvation is not a transaction you complete. It is a gift you receive. And the one doing the giving decided to give it before you ever had a chance to deserve it.

    2 Timothy 1:9 “He has saved us and called us to a holy life, not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time.”

    Before the beginning of time. That is how far back the choosing goes.

    Romans 8:38-39 “For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.”

    Nothing separates you from this love. Not your worst day. Not your longest silence. Not the version of yourself you are most ashamed of.

    A Note to Anyone Who Needs This Song

    If you are reading this and you have been living in that quiet space of feeling like grace is real but maybe not for you specifically, I wrote this song for you.

    Not in a general, everyone-included kind of way. I mean it. The specific ache of feeling like an exception to love is something I understand. And I needed to write a song that spoke directly into it.

    You are not the exception. You are the reason.
