Okay. I promised quilting teasers and I am delivering.
One of the songs on my upcoming July album is called Stitched Together — though it spent most of its life under the working title Stitch by Stitch, and honestly, watching it outgrow that name was half the fun. It is — I don’t say this lightly — one of my favorite things I’ve written all year.
The concept came from thinking about what quilting really IS at its core. It’s not just making a blanket. It’s patience. It’s intention. It’s the act of taking pieces that might seem unrelated and slowly, carefully, lovingly connecting them into something that keeps people warm.
And then, somewhere in the writing, it became a love song. Two pieces cut from different fabric — different colors, different grain — and somehow, when they were laid side by side, they looked like they were always meant to be the same. That’s the heart of it: the idea that none of this was accident or chance. That a greater hand was drawing out the pattern before either of us had a clue.
And it doesn’t stop with two people. The song reaches back through the generations — to the quilts still folded up in cedar closets, to grandmothers who prayed over their needles, to love that gets passed down through the stories and the stitches left behind. Every stitch a prayer sent up above.
Stitched Together is a folk-pop song with warmth baked into every layer. The kind of song that sounds like a familiar hug. I wrote it thinking about quilters, but I also wrote it for anyone who has ever looked at their person and quietly known: this was planned before we knew.
