“God Bless America” is my original prayer-song for this country – a humble, reverent request for protection, guidance, and continued blessing on this land we love.
Not a Cover – An Original
I want to be clear: this isn’t a cover of the classic Irving Berlin song. This is my own original composition, my own words, my own prayer. While I honor that iconic anthem, “God Bless America” on this album is a completely new song that speaks from my heart about what I hope for this nation.
A Different Kind of Patriotism
Where “250 Years Strong” celebrates what America has accomplished, “God Bless America” is about what we need going forward. It’s a prayer for protection, for wisdom, for justice with love and grace. It’s asking for something bigger than ourselves to watch over this precious land.
The Landscape and the People
The song covers America’s physical beauty – mountains, prairies, coastlines, rivers – and our human landscape – the dreamers, the families, the diverse voices that make this nation what it is. Every verse acknowledges both the gift we’ve been given and the responsibility that comes with it.
“From the mountains to the rolling plains / Through the sunshine and the summer rains / Every coastline, every river bend / This is home, beginning to the end.”
The Bridge That Matters
The bridge is where the song gets to the heart of the prayer: “May we never lose sight of what matters most / May we welcome stranger, friend, and host / May we build a future our children will embrace / With justice, love, and grace.”
That’s what I’m praying for. Not just safety, but character. Not just success, but goodness. A future we can be proud to pass on.
The Musical Approach
“God Bless America” is reverent without being somber. It’s an acoustic ballad with gentle fingerpicked guitar, subtle strings, soft percussion, and vocals that feel like they’re rising in prayer. The arrangement maintains singer-songwriter intimacy while allowing for transcendent moments.
More Than Politics
This song isn’t about any particular political viewpoint. It’s about shared hopes that I believe cross all divides: we want our country to be safe, strong, just, and good. We want our children to inherit something beautiful. We want to be people who welcome others with open hearts.
Prayer has a way of cutting through noise and getting to what really matters.
