After the Darkness
“Rachel’s Tears” leaves us in grief. That’s intentionalโwe need to sit in the sorrow, to honor the loss, to feel the weight of the world’s brokenness.
But we can’t stay there.
Because after the longest night comes the dawn. After the deepest darkness comes unshakeable light.
“Light Has Come” is the declaration that darknessโno matter how deep, how evil, how overwhelmingโcannot win. Because Jesus is the Light of the World, and the darkness cannot overcome Him.
Writing “Light Has Come”
This song needed to burst with hope after the lament. “The world was waiting in the cold, for promises from days of old. The night had lasted far too long, but heaven wrote a different song.”
The chorus is a proclamation: “Light has come, light has come, breaking through for everyone. The darkness cannot hold its ground when heaven’s hope is crashing down.”
I love that imageโhope CRASHING down like a tidal wave, like an unstoppable force. The darkness tries to hold its ground, but it can’t. Not against the Light of the World.
The Biblical Foundation
John 1:5 says, “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.”
Jesus declared in John 8:12, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”
This isn’t wishful thinking. This isn’t positive vibes. This is theological TRUTH: darkness is not equal to light. Evil is not equal to good. Death is not equal to life. And in the end, light wins.
Why This Matters Today
Turn on the news. Scroll through social media. Look at the brokenness around you. It’s easy to feel like darkness is winning.
But this song is a reminder: appearances are deceiving. The cross looked like defeatโbut it was victory. The tomb looked like the endโbut it was a new beginning.
“Light has come” isn’t future hopeโit’s present reality. Jesus already came. The light already broke through. And nothing can extinguish it.
The Bridge
“Every chain is breaking now, every lie is falling down. Every fear must testify that hope is here and hope’s alive. The Light of the World has come. The Light of the World has won.”
This is spiritual warfare through worship. When we declare the truthโthat light has come, that Jesus has wonโwe’re pushing back the darkness in our own lives and in the world around us.
Musical Journey
The song starts contemplativeโechoing the sorrow we just leftโbut quickly builds into explosive celebration. By the final chorus, it’s full band, full choir, full joy. Because hope is here, and hope is LOUD.
Personal Application
What darkness are you walking through right now? What feels overwhelming, unstoppable, unbeatable?
Let this song remind you: Light has come. Jesus has entered your darkness. And He will not be overcome.
The night may be long, but the dawn is coming. And when the Light of the World arrives, darkness doesn’t stand a chance.
