The Unlikely Witnesses
Shepherds were nobodies. Literally. They were considered unclean, untrustworthy, unable to testify in court. They lived on the margins of society, spending their nights in fields with sheep, isolated from the religious elite and cultural centers.
And yetโGod chose THEM to be the first to hear the birth announcement. The angels didn’t appear to priests or kings. They appeared to shepherds.
Why? Because the Kingdom of God flips everything upside down. The last become first. The lowly are lifted up. And the ones the world overlooks are the ones God chooses.
Writing “Without Hesitation”
This song had to capture urgency. “They didn’t question, didn’t wait, left everything at heaven’s gate.” When the angels spoke, the shepherds RAN. No committee meetings. No risk assessment. No “let me think about it.”
They heard, believed, and MOVED.
The chorus repeats “they ran” because I wanted that immediacy, that wholehearted response. Faith isn’t passiveโit’s active. It’s running toward Jesus, not walking cautiously.
But there’s another layer to this song: protection. “They guarded hope in that small space, protected love, and truth, and grace. The world would try to steal the light, but shepherds stood watch through the night.”
Shepherds knew how to protect vulnerable things. They knew how to watch for predators. And in that stable, they became the first protectors of the newborn King.
The Theology
The shepherds’ response is the model for every believer:
- Hear the truth – “Glory to God in the highest!”
- Believe immediately – No doubt, no delay
- Respond with urgency – They RAN
- Worship wholeheartedly – They knelt before the Savior
- Protect and proclaim – They guarded Him and told everyone
This is what faith looks like in action. This is what it means to follow Jesus without hesitation.
Why This Matters Today
How often do we hesitate? We hear God’s call and respond with “maybe later” or “let me pray about it” (when really we’re stalling). We overthink, overanalyze, and over-spiritualize simple obedience.
The shepherds teach us: when heaven speaks, RUN. When you encounter Jesus, don’t hold back. When you know the truth, don’t waitโrespond.
Musical Energy
This is upbeat contemporary Christian rockโdriving rhythm, urgency in every note. The “they ran” repetition becomes a rallying cry. It’s meant to stir something in you, to make you want to move, to chase after Jesus with that same reckless abandon.
What is God calling you to do without hesitation? What’s holding you back from running toward Him?
