Promotional / Personal
There is something almost funny about the title of this album in the context of my life, because if you know me at all, you know that “do not disturb” is basically the opposite of how I operate. I am a talker, a connector, a show-up-and-give-it-your-all kind of person. I do not naturally withdraw. I do not naturally put up walls.
Which is exactly why I had to write this album.
“Do Not Disturb” is a lo-fi collection that I am releasing on April 1st, 2026, and it came out of a season where I genuinely needed to hang that sign on the door of my soul. Not to be dramatic about it. Not as a statement. Just because I had finally reached the place where I understood that I could not keep pouring from an empty cup and pretending it was still full.
Burnout is a strange thing. It does not announce itself with a clear moment. It arrives slowly, quietly, until one day you realize you have been running on fumes for longer than you can remember and you have no idea how to stop. You keep showing up. You keep performing. You keep producing. And underneath all of it, some essential part of you is whispering: I need a minute. I need to not be available for a minute.
This album is that whisper, made into music.
The lo-fi format felt right because lo-fi itself is an act of slowing down. The warm textures, the unhurried tempo, the soft edges. There is nothing demanding about it. It does not ask you to be anything other than present and still. And that is exactly what I needed when I was making it.
Writing these songs was not always comfortable. There is vulnerability in admitting that you are not okay, that you need rest, that you have been saying yes to too many things for too long. But there is also something clarifying about it. Like cleaning out a closet you have been ignoring. Uncomfortable while you are in the middle of it, genuinely lighter when you are done.
I hope this album finds the people who need it most. The ones who are tired but cannot admit it yet. The ones who are running at full speed while something in them is quietly asking them to please, just for a moment, be unavailable.
You are allowed to rest. You are allowed to hang the sign.
“Do Not Disturb” releases April 1st. I cannot wait to share it with you.
Until next time,
Melanie
