My 4:30AM Victory

Every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 4:30am, my alarm goes off. It’s dark. It’s cold. My bed is warm. Everything in me wants to hit snooze. But I don’t. I get up, I get dressed, and I drive to Orange Theory Fitness. I’ve been doing this for a year now, and it’s become more than just exercise – it’s become my practice in keeping promises to myself.

“Keep Showing Up” was born from those pre-dawn drives, from the battle between the voices in my head and the decision I keep making anyway.

The Voices That Never Stop

“Heavy with the voices saying give it up again” – if you have anxiety, depression, or just a particularly cruel inner critic, you know these voices. They’re loudest at 4:30am. They have a million reasons why you should quit:

“You’re too tired.” “It won’t make a difference anyway.” “You’re not an athlete.” “Everyone else is faster/stronger/better.” “Why are you even trying?”

For me, these voices aren’t just about the gym. They’re about everything. They tell me my music isn’t good enough. That I’m too old to build a music career. That using AI makes me less of an artist. That I should just focus on being a mom and stop trying to be more.

The Magic I Can’t See

The turning point in the song – “You’re the magic you can’t see” – came from my Orange Theory coach one morning. I was having a particularly hard workout, clearly struggling, probably looking defeated. She came over and said, “You don’t see it, but you’re transforming. You’re magic in motion. Keep going.”

I almost cried right there on the treadmill.

Because isn’t that the thing? We can’t see our own transformation while it’s happening. We can’t see the strength we’re building, the resilience we’re developing, the person we’re becoming. We just feel the pain, the struggle, the weight of showing up when we don’t want to.

The Stars as Witnesses

“The stars are out there watching though you cannot see them shine” – this line is about faith, about believing that something greater is witnessing our efforts even when we feel alone in the dark. Those 4:30am drives happen under a canopy of stars I can’t see because of streetlights, but I know they’re there.

Just like I know my effort matters even when I can’t see results yet. Just like I know my boys are watching me keep my commitments even when they’re asleep. Just like I know my art matters even when the audience is small.

Keep Your Decision

“Keep your decision / Keep showing up” – this is my mantra now. Not just for the gym, but for everything. When I committed to being transparent about using AI in my music – keep that decision. When I chose to release original music after years of silence – keep showing up. When I promised myself I’d stop playing small – keep your decision, keep showing up.

For Everyone Fighting Their 4:30AM Battles

Whether your 4:30am is literal or metaphorical, whether it’s the gym or therapy or that creative project or that difficult conversation or that journey to heal – you know how hard it is to keep showing up when you can’t see the point.

I’m here to tell you: You’re the magic you can’t see.

Every time you show up despite the voices, you’re winning. Every time you keep your decision when everything in you wants to quit, you’re building something that can’t be taken away. Every time you honor your commitment to yourself, you’re proving that you matter.

The stars are watching. I’m cheering for you. And somewhere, in gyms and studios and offices and homes around the world, countless others are fighting their own 4:30am battles.

Keep your decision. Keep showing up.

You’re magic in motion, even if you can’t see it yet.
