(The Grand Finale)
The Ultimate Conclusion
Every great oratorio needs a grand finale that brings everything together – all the themes, all the soloists, all the choir, all the orchestra in one overwhelming celebration. “Worthy is the Lamb” with its traditional baroque Amen is exactly that.
The Biblical Foundation
Revelation 5:11-14 describes the throne room:
“Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. In a loud voice they were saying: ‘Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!’ Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, saying: ‘To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!’ The four living creatures said, ‘Amen,’ and the elders fell down and worshiped.”
This is the vision of ultimate worship – all creation, all voices, all powers united in declaring Christ’s worthiness.
The Baroque Grand Finale
“Worthy is the Lamb” features:

- SATB choir in massive four-part harmony
- Contrapuntal glory with fugue-style entries
- Bridge listing His names with growing intensity

- Sustained harmonies building through repetition
- Powerful baroque cadence and final declaration
The Amen section is crucial – in baroque tradition, this is where the choir holds long sustained notes, building and building until the final explosive resolution. It’s exhausting for singers and breathtaking for listeners.
Writing This Finale
The verses proclaim His worthiness:
“Worthy is the Lamb who was slain
To receive power and wealth and wisdom
Worthy is the Lamb who was slain
To receive strength and honor and glory”
The chorus declares: “Worthy! Worthy! Worthy is the Lamb!
Blessing and honor and glory and power
Be unto Him, be unto Him
Forever and ever, amen!”
The bridge lists His names: “He is worthy, He is holy
He is righteous, He is mighty
King of Kings and Lord of Lords
Faithful and True, forevermore!
Lion of Judah, Lamb of God
The Alpha, Omega, Beginning and End
The Bright Morning Star, the Great I Am
Worthy, worthy, worthy is the Lamb!”
Then the traditional Amen builds: “A-men! A-men!
A-men! A-men!
A-men! A-men!
A-men, A-men, A-men!”
The Theology
This is doxology – the ultimate expression of praise. It’s not asking God for anything. It’s simply declaring His worth.
Romans 11:36 worships, “For from him and through him and for him are all things. To him be the glory forever! Amen.”
Jude 24-25 concludes with doxology: “To him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joyโto the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen.”
Ephesians 3:20-21 declares, “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.”
Why This Matters
This finale reminds us: the story isn’t over. We’re still in the middle. Christ has come, yes. But He’s coming again. And when He does, this is what we’ll sing – forever.
Revelation 22:20-21 ends the Bible with, “He who testifies to these things says, ‘Yes, I am coming soon.’ Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s people. Amen.”
My Final Thought
From “Comfort Ye” to “Worthy is the Lamb” – we’ve journeyed through prophecy, birth, passion, victory, and eternal reign. This oratorio tells the complete story, from beginning to forever.
And that “Amen” at the end? It means “so be it,” “it is true,” “let it be established.” It’s our agreement with everything God has said and done.
He IS worthy. He DOES reign. The promise WAS kept. The Lamb IS victorious.
Amen and amen!
Worthy is the Lamb. Forever and ever. AMEN!
