Track 2: “Twenty-Eight Days” – February Got Robbed

After the wonder of “Leap Day,” we’re staying in February territory with a question that honestly keeps me up at night: Who decided February only gets 28 days?

    The Story Behind “Twenty-Eight Days”

Look, I’m not saying I’m bitter about this. But I AM saying that February got the short end of the stick and somebody owes us an explanation.

Every other month is sitting pretty with 30 or 31 days. They’re comfortable. They’re settled. They have TIME. But February? February gets 28 days (29 if we’re lucky every four years) and we’re all supposed to pretend this makes sense?

This song came from a place of genuine confusion mixed with comedic frustration. Like, WHO made this decision? Was February late to the meeting when they were dividing up the days? Did February do something to anger the ancient Romans?

I need answers, and I’m asking them through song.

    The Lyrics

    VERSE 1
January gets thirty-one, that seems fair
March gets the same, an equal share
    But February sitting in between
Gets twenty-eight, the shortest I’ve seen
Who made this call? What’s the master plan?
Did February anger the calendar man?

    CHORUS
    Twenty-eight days, who decided that?
Somebody explain where the logic’s at
Every other month is sitting pretty fine
But February’s always running out of time
Twenty-eight days, it doesn’t make sense
February got the shortest end of events
    Twenty-eight days!

    VERSE 2
We’re barely getting started, finding our groove
Winter’s still here, nothing’s ready to move
Just when you think you’ve got a month to spare
You blink twice and March is standing there
The Romans must have had a twisted game
Leaving February short and taking all the blame

    BRIDGE
And don’t even start with leap year’s extra throw
One bonus day every four years or so
Like that’s supposed to make it all okay
February’s still the month that got away
I need answers, I need someone to confess
Who looked at February and said “give ’em less”?

    The Comedy of Calendar Injustice

Here’s the thing: this song is silly. It’s meant to be silly. But it’s also tapping into that very relatable feeling of “wait, this doesn’t make sense and nobody else seems bothered by it?!”

We just ACCEPT that February is short. We don’t question it. We move on. But I’m here to question it! I’m here to demand justice for February!

The bridge especially makes me laugh every time I sing it. That line about leap year – “Like that’s supposed to make it all okay” – because it ISN’T okay! One extra day every four years doesn’t make up for being shortchanged by 2-3 days EVERY SINGLE YEAR.

    Why This Song Comes Second

After “Leap Day” celebrates that bonus day, “Twenty-Eight Days” asks the logical follow-up: but why does February need that bonus day in the first place? Why is it so SHORT?

These two songs together set the tone for the album: we’re asking questions, we’re finding humor in everyday things, and we’re not afraid to point out when something doesn’t quite add up.

Plus, we’re still in that February/March transition zone. We’re still warming up before we dive into the Irish heritage songs and the heavier emotional territory. This is the fun section – enjoy it while it lasts!

    The Musical Energy

This one needed to be upbeat and punchy – frustrated but fun. Think bright piano, big drums, maybe some playful brass hits. The frustration is theatrical, not angry. It’s like I’m genuinely baffled and asking the universe “seriously, who thought this was a good idea?”

The chorus needed to be anthemic because I want everyone singing along, demanding answers. TWENTY-EIGHT DAYS! WHO DECIDED THAT?!

    What I Hope You Feel

I want you to LAUGH. I want you to suddenly realize “wait, yeah, that IS weird!” And maybe, just maybe, I want you to appreciate March a little bit more for having the full 31 days it deserves.

But mostly, I want you to feel that playful energy. We’re building momentum. We’re having fun. The album’s just getting started.

Tomorrow we transition into Irish territory with “Wearing Green” – the joyful celebration that kicks off the heritage portion of this journey.

    ❤️ Melanie

  • Track 1: “Leap Day” – Do I Really Get an Extra Day?

Track 1: “Leap Day” – Do I Really Get an Extra Day?

    Hey friends!

Welcome to the first song on “March Winds”! We’re starting this journey with a question I ask myself every four years: Do I really get an extra day?

    The Story Behind “Leap Day”

Yes I know 2026 doesn’t have a February 29th! But, there’s something delightfully strange about February 29th. It shows up on the calendar every four years like an unexpected gift, and every time it comes around, I find myself staring at it like “wait, is this real? Do I actually get 24 bonus hours?”

I wrote “Leap Day” because I wanted to capture that weird, playful confusion we all feel when this day appears. It’s like the universe is winking at us, playing a little trick with time itself. And honestly? I never quite know what to DO with it. Is it mine to waste? Mine to save? Should I do something spectacular or just… live it like any other Tuesday?

The whole concept is kind of mind-bending when you think about it. We invented calendars to make sense of time, and then we had to throw in this random extra day every four years to make the math work. And don’t even get me started on leap day babies who are technically four years younger than the rest of us.

    The Lyrics

    VERSE 1
The calendar says it’s February twenty-nine
A day that wasn’t here last time
Four years gone and now it’s back again
Like finding money in an old coat hem
Teachers never taught me what to do
With twenty-four hours that feel brand new

    CHORUS
Do I really get an extra day?
A gift of time that slipped away?
Is it mine to waste or mine to save?
Do I really get an extra day?
A borrowed moment, wild and strange
    Dancing outside the normal range
Do I really get an extra day?

    VERSE 2
My birthday friends, they’re four years young
Living quarters of the life we’ve spun
The universe is winking, playing tricks
Adding hours to the calendar mix
    Everyone’s pretending this makes sense
While I’m standing on this temporal fence

    BRIDGE
What if I could bottle up this feeling?
    Every ordinary Tuesday revealing
That time is bendable, stretchable, surreal
And every single moment’s a big deal
The earth spins slower, faster, who can say?
But here I am with one impossible day

Why This Song Opens the Album

I wanted to start “March Winds” with wonder and playfulness. Before we get into the heavy stuff, before we talk about family and darkness and transformation, I wanted us all to just… pause and marvel at something strange and beautiful.

Because isn’t that what March is? A month that can be winter one day and spring the next? A month that can’t make up its mind? A month full of surprises and unexpected gifts?

“Leap Day” sets the tone: we’re going on a journey together, and it’s going to be full of questions, wonder, and moments that make us stop and think “wait, how does this even work?”

Also, I love that this is under 3 minutes. Quick, punchy, fun. We’re starting with energy and curiosity before we settle into the deeper stuff.

    The Suno Magic

This was one of those songs that clicked pretty quickly in production. I wanted it upbeat with quirky instrumentation – think playful piano, maybe some unexpected strings. The energy needed to feel like that moment when you realize “oh! It’s leap day!”

The chorus really became the heart of it – that repeated question “Do I really get an extra day?” I wanted it to feel both genuine and a little bit absurd. Because it IS absurd, when you think about it.

    What I Hope You Feel

When you listen to “Leap Day,” I want you to smile. I want you to remember that time is weird and wonderful and we don’t always have to take it so seriously. I want you to feel that childlike wonder at discovering something doesn’t quite make sense but somehow works anyway.

And maybe, just maybe, I want you to appreciate your regular, non-leap days a little bit more. Because if we get this excited about one bonus day every four years, imagine what we could do if we treated every day like a gift.

Ready for track 2? Tomorrow we’re tackling “Twenty-Eight Days” – because if Leap Day gets the celebration, February deserves some questions.

    ❤️ Melanie

Welcome to March Winds: An Album Journey Through Spring, Heritage, and Transformation

    Hey everyone!

I am SO excited to finally share this with you. My new album “March Winds” is coming in March 2026, and honestly? This one feels different. This one feels like me.

    Why March? Why Now?

Here’s the thing: I’m planning to release a new album every month in 2026. Yes, you read that right. MONTHLY ALBUMS. Am I crazy? Probably. But I’m also incredibly excited about it.

And I’m starting with March because spring is my absolute favorite season. There’s something about those first warm days, about things coming back to life, about the way March can be both wild and gentle in the same afternoon. Plus, March holds one of the most important days of my life – March 18th, my son’s birthday. This album is personal in ways I didn’t even plan for.

The Suno Journey: 53 Minutes That Took Hundreds of Listens

Let me tell you about the production process because it was… intense. I used Suno AI to produce the music for this album, and I didn’t just hit “generate” and call it done. Each song went through 3-10 versions. That’s somewhere between 45-150 versions I listened to across 15 songs, finding the exact sound that matched what I was hearing in my head, what fit the story I needed to tell.

Some songs clicked on version 3. Others? I listened to ten different arrangements before I found the one that made me go “THAT’S IT.” And “The Irish Goodbye”? That one came out PERFECT. I’m so proud of how that track sounds – it captures exactly the comedy and chaos I wanted.

What to Expect: 15 Songs, One Journey

This isn’t just a collection of songs about March. It’s a journey. Here’s where we’re going together:

The Playful Opening (Tracks 1-3) We start light – “Leap Day” asks that delightful question: do I really get an extra day? “Twenty-Eight Days” keeps the fun rolling, and then “Wearing Green” kicks off the Irish celebration with pure joy. These first three songs are your warm-up, your invitation to the party.

Getting Personal (Tracks 4-7) Then we shift. “March Eighteenth” is where I tell you about my son’s birth – it’s tender, it’s personal, it’s everything. “Irish Kitchen” wraps you in warmth and comfort food memories. And then? Comedy break! “I Guess That’s Where I Get It From” and “The Irish Goodbye” are here to make you LAUGH. Because we need that before what comes next.

The Dark Truth (Tracks 8-9) This is where the album gets real. “Irish in My Bones” slows everything down and gets honest. And “It Runs on Both Sides of the Family”? That’s the heavy one. The dark satire. The truth about alcoholism that runs through my family tree. It’s the emotional low point, and it’s supposed to be. Because you can’t have renewal without facing what needs to be renewed.

Spring Awakening (Tracks 10-12) Recovery begins with “First Thaw” – hope emerging, lighter cardigans, morning dew. “Robin’s Return” gives us breathing room with peaceful observation. “Seeds of Tomorrow” plants hope for the future with a gentle waltz that sways you back to your feet.

The Powerful Finish (Tracks 13-15) Energy RETURNS with “March Winds” – wild, free, dancing in the chaos of spring storms. Then comes “Bloom Where You’re Planted,” my big vocal showcase moment, the power anthem that says “I’m here, I’m growing, I’m NOT going anywhere.” And we close with “Renewal,” soft but strong, transformation complete: “This is me.”

    What’s Coming Next

Starting soon, I’ll be posting about each song individually. I’m going to share the lyrics, the stories behind them, what they mean to me, and why they found their place on this album. For the comedy songs, we’re going to have some fun. For the heavy ones, we’re going to get real.

And because I believe in feeding both body and soul, I’m throwing in some bonuses:

    • An authentic Irish soda bread recipe (because “Irish Kitchen” made me hungry)
    • How to make the perfect espresso martini
    • The secret to making green beer that doesn’t taste like regret

    PLUS – Irish Folklore Singles!
In addition to the main album, I’m releasing 5 Irish folklore singles throughout February and March:

    • February 16: “The Claddagh Ring”
    • February 23: MARCH WINDS ALBUM (15 tracks)
    • March 2: “Leprechaun’s Gold”
    • March 9: “The Fairy’s Gift”
    • March 17: “The Day We’re All Irish” (Celtic punk!)

Each folklore single tells a different Irish story, and “The Day We’re All Irish” drops on St. Patrick’s Day because OF COURSE IT DOES.

Stay tuned, friends. This is going to be a journey, and I’m so glad you’re here for it.

  • Folklore Single: “The Claddagh Ring” – Love, Loyalty, Friendship

Folklore Single: “The Claddagh Ring” – Love, Loyalty, Friendship

    Releasing February 16, 2026

Before the full “March Winds” album drops on February 23rd, I want to share something special with you. I’m releasing a series of Irish folklore singles throughout February and March, and we’re starting with one of the most meaningful symbols in Irish culture: The Claddagh Ring.

    What Is The Claddagh Ring?

If you’ve ever seen that distinctive Irish ring with two hands holding a crowned heart, you’ve seen a Claddagh ring. It’s one of Ireland’s most recognizable symbols, and the design carries deep meaning:

    The Hands represent friendship
    The Heart represents love
    The Crown represents loyalty

Together, they form a complete symbol of what matters most in life: love, loyalty, and friendship.

And the way you wear it? That tells a story too:

    • Right hand, heart facing out: You’re single and available
    • Right hand, heart facing in: You’re in a relationship
    • Left hand, heart facing in: You’re married or engaged

    Why This Song?

I wrote “The Claddagh Ring” because I wanted to explore what these symbols REALLY mean. Not just as a cute ring you buy in a tourist shop, but as a philosophy for living.

What does it mean to give someone your heart with loyalty and friendship built into the foundation? What does it mean to wear your commitment where everyone can see it? What does it mean to have love that’s held by friendship and crowned with loyalty?

This folklore single is about relationships – romantic, yes, but also about how we love our friends, our family, our community. It’s about the Irish understanding that love without loyalty and friendship is incomplete.

    The Irish Heritage Connection

The Claddagh ring originated in the fishing village of Claddagh in Galway, Ireland, over 400 years ago. The traditional story says it was created by a man named Richard Joyce who was captured by pirates and sold into slavery. While enslaved, he learned the goldsmith’s trade and created the ring as a symbol of his enduring love for the woman he left behind.

When he was finally freed and returned to Galway, he discovered she had waited for him. He gave her the ring, and they married.

That story – of love that endures through separation, of loyalty that doesn’t fade, of friendship strong enough to wait – that’s the soul of the Claddagh ring.

What To Expect From This Single

“The Claddagh Ring” is tender, romantic, and deeply rooted in Irish tradition. Think folk ballad meets contemporary singer-songwriter. It’s the kind of song you’d want played at your wedding – or the song you’d listen to while looking at your Claddagh ring and remembering why you wear it.

This is the first of five folklore singles I’m releasing alongside “March Winds,” and it sets the tone: Irish stories, told with authenticity, connected to real human emotions and experiences.

Stream “The Claddagh Ring” on February 16th

Mark your calendars! This single drops February 16th, exactly one week before the full “March Winds” album.

And if you wear a Claddagh ring (or you’ve been thinking about getting one), I hope this song makes you think about what those symbols mean. Love. Loyalty. Friendship. The three things that hold everything together.

    ❤️ Melanie
