    September Starts — And So Does Everything Good

    Can I tell you something that might sound a little dramatic? September feels more like a new year to me than January ever has. January is cold and dark and honestly a little depressing, and the resolutions I make in January tend to last about eleven days before I quietly retire them and pretend they never happened. But September? September walks in with that particular golden light and the smell of something changing and a brand new feeling of possibility that I have never been able to fully explain, only feel. Deep in my chest. Like a door opening.

    That feeling is what gave me “September Starts.”

    This is Track 2 on my new album Give Me Fall, releasing August 31st, and it might be my favorite song on the whole record to sing. Not because it is the most complicated or the most emotional, but because it is the most true. Every single line of this song came directly from my own life, my own mornings, my own experience of watching September arrive and feeling something inside me wake back up.

    The song opens with a chill in the air that wasn’t there last week. That is a real thing that happens, and if you are a fall person you know exactly what I mean. One morning everything is still summer and the next morning the air is different and you feel it before you are even fully awake. New backpacks by the door. Little shoes on little feet. The routine comes back easy like it never went away. There is something so grounding about September rhythms, about the way a family finds its pace again after the loose, wonderful chaos of summer.

    But the line that really cracked this song open for me is in the second verse. I make my coffee slower. I take a minute on the porch. And in my version of this song, the person I love pulls me close a little, the way you do when you know what someone is moving toward even before they say it. That small moment of being known, of being seen in your own quiet joy, is what the whole love thread of this album is reaching for. Fall is the season where I feel most myself, and sharing that with someone who gets it? That is everything.

    The pre-chorus ties directly into the F. Scott Fitzgerald quote that anchors this entire album: “Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall.” I have been in love with that line for years, and when I finally sat down to write a whole album about fall, it became the thesis of everything. September starts and suddenly I remember how to live. How to live with you.

    I wrote this album collaborating with Claude AI on lyrics and structure, and using Suno AI for music production, which sampled my own voice in the process. I write every word myself, and this song went through several drafts before the bridge finally found its footing. The bridge is where the song gets really personal. It talks about the way fall feels like home and how the person you love is the reason you keep finding your way back to yourself. It is the way you hand me coffee without asking how I take it. That detail. That tiny, enormous detail of being known so well that someone knows your coffee order without asking. That is a whole love story in one line.

    If September has ever felt like permission to you, this song is for you.     There is a moment every single year that stops me in my tracks. It happens before I even check the calendar. It happens before the coffee shop changes its menu or the kids start asking about costumes. It happens the first time I step outside in the morning and the air hits my face differently. Cooler. Crisper. Carrying something I can only describe as possibility. And every single year, without fail, I say the same thing out loud to nobody in particular.

    Give me fall.

    That moment is where this song was born.

    “Give Me Fall” is the opening track on my brand new album, also called Give Me Fall, releasing August 31st, and it is the most honest thing I have written in a long time. It is not a complicated song. It is not trying to be clever or deep or impressive. It is just me, standing in the middle of October, arms wide open, asking for all of it. The pumpkins on the porch. The hay rides. The corn mazes where you get hopelessly lost and honestly don’t mind at all. The apple cider straight from the jug. The firepit smoke and the flannel and the person you love right there beside you.

    Give me fall. Give me all of it.

    I wrote this album because fall has always felt like a second beginning to me. F. Scott Fitzgerald said it better than I ever could when he wrote, “Life starts all over again when it gets crisp in the fall.” That line lived in my heart for years before I finally built an entire album around it. There is something about September arriving that feels like permission. Permission to slow down, to wrap up, to savor. Permission to stop rushing through the moments and actually live inside them.

    “Give Me Fall” tries to capture that feeling from the very first line. The coffee shop changing its menu overnight. The smell of leaves before you even see them. The calendar turning a page and something in the air confirming what you already knew in your bones. Fall is here. And I reach for you.

    Because that is the other thing this whole album is about. Every single song on Give Me Fall has a love thread running through it, because fall is just better with someone. The hay rides and the corn mazes and the pumpkin patch days, all of it becomes something richer and warmer and more worth remembering when you have a person to share it with. The chorus of this song is basically my love language written out loud. Lost together in a corn maze and honestly fine with it. Firepit smoke and a flannel and your arms around me. Give me fall with you.

    I work with Claude AI as my songwriting collaborator and use Suno AI for music production, which actually sampled my own voice in the process. I write every single lyric myself, and I am proud of this one. It went through so many drafts before the bridge finally cracked open the way I needed it to. The moment where everything slows down and you realize the last dinner outside has already happened and you didn’t even know it. That quiet urgency, that stay a little longer feeling, that is the emotional center of the whole album and it starts right here in Track 1.
