To the Independent Artists Reading This: Keep Going

To the independent artists reading this blog, and I know you are here because you tell me in my DMs every single week, I want to talk directly to you today.

This whole year has been a very public experiment in what independent artistry can actually look like in 2026. It is a monthly album release schedule. A concept musical. A quilting folk album. A devotional Proverbs project. A 90s nostalgia record complete with mom anthems and a Blockbuster ballad. It is an album every single month, a daily blog post published without fail, and a book somewhere in the middle of all of it that I am constantly trying to edit.

Some of you are watching from the outside and feeling inspired. Some of you are watching and feeling completely overwhelmed. Most of you are probably feeling both of those things simultaneously, which is entirely normal.

Here is what I want you to hear loud and clear: there is no single right way to do this.

My process belongs to me because it fits how my brain operates, how I structure my days, and what tools I have access to. Your process needs to fit you. It should honor your pace, your lifestyle, and your unique creative energy.

What actually matters is that you keep making things.

At the start of 2026, I committed to two non-negotiable creative pillars: writing a daily blog post and releasing at least one new piece of music every single month. Showing up every day to write and finish tracks has taught me that consistency is not about perfection. It is about momentum. It is about building a habit where the fear of starting gets smaller than the joy of finishing.

Do not let the gap between where you currently are and where you want to be stop you from taking the very next step. Find the workflow, the habits, and the systems that allow you to create sustainably over the long haul.

Most importantly, share your work. Put it out into the world. The unfinished tracks sitting in your hard drive and the drafts hidden in your notebook are helping no one. Perfectionism is just fear in a fancy coat.

I believe in you. Not as a catchy slogan or a motivation quote, but as a real thing I mean from one working artist to another.

Now go make something today. Then tag me at @TheMelanieGrace because I genuinely want to see what you are creating.

  • The Album Every Month Goal: An Honest Mid-August Check-In

The Album Every Month Goal: An Honest Mid-August Check-In

My big 2026 goal was to release one album every month. Let us check in honestly on how that is going.

January through August: on track. Eight full months of brand-new music. From Through It All in the early year to Quilt Anthems in July, Bring Us Home, and now Mixtape Mindset landing in August, every single month has brought something new to the surface.

What still lies ahead is just as ambitious: Crisp Fall Air in September, the Halloween album with my son in October, the Christmas Folklore Album in November, and the untitled holiday album plus a New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day release in December.

Here is what nobody tells you about releasing music every month: it requires a very specific relationship with the creative process. You cannot wait for inspiration to strike when you feel like it. You have to show up and find it. You cannot second-guess endlessly or get stuck tweaking a single mix for six months. You have to make the call, finish the work, and move forward. You have to trust that the next album is already inside you before you have even finished the current one.

This musical commitment does not exist in a vacuum, either. Sitting alongside my monthly releases is my commitment to write and publish a daily blog post every single day of the year.

At first, balancing continuous music production with a daily publishing habit felt like a massive mountain to climb. What I have realized over these past eight months is that the two habits feed each other. Writing daily keeps my storytelling instincts sharp and prevents creative stagnation. By the time I sit down to work on music, the ideas are already flowing because the creative pump has been primed all morning.

It has been one of the most creatively demanding and creatively rewarding years of my life. Both things are completely true at the exact same time.

If you have been listening, if you have streamed even one of these albums or shared a song with a friend, thank you. Every play, every save, and every add to a personal playlist keeps this engine running. You are a real part of why this is working.

  • To Every Kid Going Back to School This Week

To Every Kid Going Back to School This Week

This one is for the kids.

Not the moms today. Moms, I have got you covered all month and you know I love you, but today I am talking directly to the backpack carriers. The new pencil smellers. The ones feeling that strange mix of excitement and nerves about a new class, a new school, or just the general uncertainty of another beginning.

    I see you.

Going back to school contains something deeply universal that stays with us long after we leave the classroom. It is the crisp air on an August or September morning, the satisfying click of a brand-new binder, and the smell of fresh notebook paper waiting for its first word. It is that classic brown paper bag or patterned lunchbox packed with a sandwich, a juice box, and maybe a little note tucked inside to remind you that someone is thinking of you.

Those small details sound simple, but they are the exact moments that turn into lifelong memories. Years from now, a certain scent or the sound of a school bus door opening will bring all of this right back to you in a wave of nostalgia.

That feeling of starting fresh is why I am so passionate about showing up every single day in my own work. At the start of 2026, I made a strict promise to myself: write a daily blog post and release at least one new piece of music every single month.

Juggling a daily writing habit alongside a consistent music release schedule requires the exact same courage as stepping through the school doors on day one. You have to embrace the unknown, trust the process, and show up even when you feel a little nervous. The discipline of staying true to those creative promises keeps my mind sharp and reminds me that growth only happens when you step into a new beginning.

Here is what I want you to know: the specific, weird, wonderful, and hard things about your right now life are worth paying attention to. The packed lunches, the locker combinations, the nervous butterflies, and the laughter in the hallway are forming who you are. None of it is wasted, and one day someone might even write a song about it.

Maybe that someone will be you.

Good luck this school year. I am rooting for you.

  • Suno AI: My Production Partner and Why I’m Open About It

Suno AI: My Production Partner and Why I’m Open About It

I talk about Suno AI in these blogs fairly often, but I want to dedicate a full post to it because it deserves a real explanation, not just a passing mention.

Suno is a music production platform that takes a text prompt describing musical style, vocal delivery, instrumentation, and mood, and generates a produced song from it. Combined with my own lyrics, it means I can go from a finished lyric to a produced, listenable track in a fraction of the time traditional production would take. For an independent artist without a label budget, this is genuinely transformative.

What I want to be completely clear about is this: Suno does not write my songs.

The emotional heart, the specific imagery, and the turns of phrase that make a song feel like me all come directly from my own writing process, often developed in collaboration with Claude. Suno simply gives that content a musical home. It takes the lyrics and the production prompt I craft, creating the sonic world around them.

The prompts matter enormously. Specificity is everything in this process. You have to describe the exact instruments, the tempo, the vocal style, the energy, and the decade influences. Get it right, and the result is something I am genuinely proud to share with the world. Get it wrong, and you iterate. There is always iteration.

This technology has been pivotal in helping me keep my 2026 creative promises. At the beginning of this year, I set two massive goals for myself: publish a daily blog post and release at least one new piece of music every single month.

Maintaining a daily writing schedule while consistently outputting full musical tracks would be nearly impossible under traditional production constraints. Working with Suno as a production partner allows me to stay true to both of these commitments without sacrificing quality or creative vision. It bridges the gap between my ideas and a finished track, giving me the momentum to keep showing up every single day.

Twelve songs on Mixtape Mindset were created through this exact partnership. Every single one was produced this way, shaped with care and intention.

Go listen and tell me if it sounds like it was made with love, because it truly was.

  • Add My Songs to Your Playlists: Here’s How and Why

Add My Songs to Your Playlists: Here’s How and Why

Today I want to talk about one specific, practical way you can support an independent artist you love: add their songs to your personal music playlists.

When you add a song to your playlist and that playlist gets listened to or shared, those tracks reach brand-new ears naturally. It is word-of-mouth promotion powered by the platform algorithms, and it costs you nothing but thirty seconds of your time.

Every single stream truly matters. Each listen, save, and playlist add directly helps fund the next recording session, the next artwork design, and the next release. In a very real way, every stream helps my creative dreams come true.

That support is especially vital this year. In 2026, I committed to a massive creative challenge: publishing a daily blog post and releasing at least one brand-new piece of music every single month. Keeping up with that pace takes tremendous dedication, but seeing my music wind up on your personal playlists keeps my creative fire burning every day.

If you are not sure how to create a playlist, here is a simple step-by-step guide for the two biggest streaming platforms:

How to Create a Playlist on Spotify

    1. Open the Spotify app on your phone or desktop.
    2. Tap or click Your Library at the bottom or side of the screen.
    3. Tap the + (plus) icon at the top right and select Playlist.
    4. Give your playlist a name (like “Fall Vibes” or “Daily Focus”) and tap Create.
    5. Search for any song from my catalog, tap the three dots (…) next to the song title, and select Add to playlist.

How to Create a Playlist on Apple Music / iTunes

    1. Open the Apple Music or iTunes app.
    2. Go to Library, tap Playlists, and select New Playlist.
    3. Name your playlist and tap Add Music.
    4. Search for my songs, tap the + (plus) icon or the three dots (…) next to any track, and choose Add to a Playlist.

To make it super easy to get started, here are a few Mixtape Mindset songs matched to common playlist moods:

    • Summer to Fall Transitions: The Most Wonderful Time of the Year
    • Funny Mom Moments: Cart Full of Crayons, Too Much Togetherness
    • 90s Nostalgia: Lisa Frank Folders, Be Kind Rewind, Make Me a Mixtape, Saturday Morning Cartoons, Commercial Breaks, Sunday Comics
    • Songs That Make You Feel Things: I Can’t Believe I Missed This, Seven Digits, Where Have All the Payphones Gone

Find your playlist, add a song, and share it with someone who needs to hear it. Every play moves this journey forward.
