To the independent artists reading this blog, and I know you are here because you tell me in my DMs every single week, I want to talk directly to you today.
This whole year has been a very public experiment in what independent artistry can actually look like in 2026. It is a monthly album release schedule. A concept musical. A quilting folk album. A devotional Proverbs project. A 90s nostalgia record complete with mom anthems and a Blockbuster ballad. It is an album every single month, a daily blog post published without fail, and a book somewhere in the middle of all of it that I am constantly trying to edit.
Some of you are watching from the outside and feeling inspired. Some of you are watching and feeling completely overwhelmed. Most of you are probably feeling both of those things simultaneously, which is entirely normal.
Here is what I want you to hear loud and clear: there is no single right way to do this.
My process belongs to me because it fits how my brain operates, how I structure my days, and what tools I have access to. Your process needs to fit you. It should honor your pace, your lifestyle, and your unique creative energy.
What actually matters is that you keep making things.
At the start of 2026, I committed to two non-negotiable creative pillars: writing a daily blog post and releasing at least one new piece of music every single month. Showing up every day to write and finish tracks has taught me that consistency is not about perfection. It is about momentum. It is about building a habit where the fear of starting gets smaller than the joy of finishing.
Do not let the gap between where you currently are and where you want to be stop you from taking the very next step. Find the workflow, the habits, and the systems that allow you to create sustainably over the long haul.
Most importantly, share your work. Put it out into the world. The unfinished tracks sitting in your hard drive and the drafts hidden in your notebook are helping no one. Perfectionism is just fear in a fancy coat.
I believe in you. Not as a catchy slogan or a motivation quote, but as a real thing I mean from one working artist to another.
