    I woke up this morning and the first thing I did was check my phone. There it was – “Summer State of Mind” live on every streaming platform. All 13 songs. Out in the world.

    I’m sitting here with my coffee, reading your comments, seeing your Stories with the album playing, and I’m just… overwhelmed. In the best way.

    This Album is For You

    I’ve written a lot about what this album means to me – the inspiration, the process, the journey. But today I want to talk about what it means that you’re here.

    Every pre-save. Every share. Every “I can’t wait!” comment. Every text from friends saying they’re excited. All of it mattered. All of it kept me going when I was stressed about whether these songs were good enough, whether anyone would care, whether I was crazy for making a 13-track summer album.

    You made this possible.

    Hey friends! I’m beyond excited to finally share what I’ve been working on for months – my brand new summer album, “Summer State of Mind,” releasing May 18, 2026!

    Living the California Dream

    As someone who calls California home, I’m constantly reminded of how lucky I am to live in the sunshine state. Forty minutes to the mountains, thirty minutes to the beach, ninety to the desert – we literally have it all. The weather is mostly always perfect (not scorching like Arizona, not humid like Florida), and the sun sets at a reasonable hour (looking at you, Idaho with your 10pm sunsets!). This California lifestyle inspired so much of this album, and I couldn’t wait to capture that golden state magic in music.

    Summer Music for Summer 2026

    “Summer State of Mind” is my love letter to everything summer – from floating in the pool with a cold drink to those magical golden hour sunsets over the Pacific, from Fourth of July celebrations to bittersweet end-of-summer goodbyes, from surviving triple-digit heat to finding romance in the blaze. This album has 13 tracks that take you on a complete summer journey, and I’m so proud of how it turned out.

    But let me tell you – getting here wasn’t easy! I wrote, rewrote, edited, and omitted SO many songs. Some just didn’t fit the summer vibe I was going for, no matter how much I loved them. There were comedy songs that felt too forced, slow ballads that dragged the energy down, and upbeat tracks that just didn’t capture the feeling I wanted. The songs that made the final cut? They’re the ones that gave me chills every single time I listened back.

    The Best Part? America!

    One of my favorite parts of this album is the celebration of America woven throughout. We’re releasing just in time for Memorial Day weekend, and tracks like “Red White and Pool,” “250 Years Strong,” and “God Bless America” are my tribute to this incredible country. In 2026, we’re celebrating 250 years of American independence – that’s huge! I wanted to honor that milestone with music that captures both the party spirit and the deeper gratitude I feel for living in the land of the free.

    Summer Activities, Summer Vibes

    This album covers all the classic summer activities we love – pool parties, beach bonfires, BBQs with friends and family, driving with the windows down, those perfect sunset moments, and yes, even the universal struggle of trying not to get your hair wet at the pool (if you know, you know!).

    Whether you’re looking for upbeat EDM tracks to blast at your Fourth of July party (“Red White and Pool” and “BBQ State of Mind” are high-energy dance anthems!), romantic slow jams for beach bonfires (“Summer Romance,” “The One That Got Away”), or nostalgic reflections on summers past (“Put On That Summer Song,” “When Summer Ends”), this album has something for every summer mood.

    I’ve listened to this album SO many times – not just during production, but afterward, testing the flow, making sure the energy builds and dips at the right moments, ensuring that each song transitions smoothly into the next. I’ve listened to it while driving down the coast, while floating in my pool, during sunset walks, and late at night when the nostalgia hits. Every single time, I feel something. And that’s what I want for you, too.

    I made this album for people who love summer as much as I do. For people who get emotional when September rolls around. For people who understand that summer isn’t just a season – it’s a feeling, a state of mind, a way of living.

    American Songwriting: What It Means to Make Music Rooted in Place

    What makes American music distinctive?  American music is distinctive because of its geographic plurality, its blending of diverse cultural traditions, and its history of reinvention. American songwriters draw from an extraordinary range of regional sounds and personal histories, producing music that is simultaneously rooted in a specific place and restless with possibility.

    Music That Sounds Like Where It Comes From

    I have been thinking about America a lot lately. Not in the heated, contentious, argument-on-the-internet way that seems to fill so much public space. I mean America the way you feel it when you are driving through wide open landscape, or watching a sky that only exists at this particular latitude, or hearing a song that could only have been made in this country by someone who grew up the specific way we grew up here.

    American songwriting as a tradition exists because of a feeling that is hard to name precisely but completely recognizable when it arrives. It is nostalgia and grit and hope and heartbreak all living in the same chord progression. It is the sound of wide roads and complicated family histories and a country that is perpetually, restlessly figuring out what it wants to be next. As an independent singer-songwriter planted firmly in California, that tradition is in my musical DNA whether I consciously reach for it or not.

    How Does Geography Shape a Songwriter’s Sound?

    I grew up singing in church choirs, community theater, and school performances. My musical roots are very American in that specific, patchwork, assembled-from-everywhere way. I have classical choral training and pop sensibilities and a songwriter’s deep love for a true story told honestly. That particular combination of influences does not happen everywhere in the world. It happens here.

    California is in my sound whether I intend it to be or not. There is a particular openness in California light, a quality of space and warmth and year-round bloom, that finds its way into the emotional atmosphere of my music. My songs tend toward the horizon. They tend toward possibility rather than limitation. They look outward. That is a California thing and I have stopped trying to write around it.

    What It Means to Make Rooted American Music in 2026

    Some of my favorite songs I have written this year carry that quality of being genuinely rooted. They feel like they could only have come from this particular life, in this particular place, at this particular moment. There is a project coming later this year that leans directly into this American identity in sound and it is one of the things I am most excited about in my entire 2026 calendar.

    I do not take the freedom to make this music for granted. Being a songwriter in a country where I can write whatever I feel, release it when I want, and build an audience on my own terms is a remarkable privilege. It is worth saying out loud and worth celebrating with every song I put into the world.
