Now that we’ve spent two weeks going song by song, I want to talk about the album as a whole experience, the way it was meant to be heard.
Mixtape Mindset is twelve songs that flow together without interruption. No categories. No chapters. Just one song leading into the next the way a great mixtape always did, with intention and momentum and a sense that every track was chosen for a reason.
It opens with laughter. The Most Wonderful Time of the Year, Cart Full of Crayons, Too Much Togetherness: pure comedy with a beating heart underneath. Then it finds its groove: Lisa Frank Folders, Be Kind Rewind, Make Me a Mixtape, all that high energy 90s nostalgia that gets in your body before your brain catches up.
Then it slows into warmth. Saturday Morning Cartoons, Commercial Breaks, Sunday Comics: the cozy rituals. The pace of life we didn’t know we were losing.
And then it gets honest. I Can’t Believe I Missed This turns the whole thing on a dime. Seven Digits asks whose number you still carry. And Where Have All the Payphones Gone closes it quietly, with a dial tone fading into silence.
That’s the journey. Funny to heartfelt to honest. Start to finish in one sitting if you can.
